Abstract

Maple 8 provides the single mathematical analysis environment for solving technical problems in the workplace, the research lab and in the classroom, including: The world's most respected symbolic solver Stunning graphics generation and visualization tools Single-stepping through differentiation, integration and limit problems Designing custom graphical user interfaces to access Maple's computational engine High-speed numeric solvers from The Numerical Algorithms Group High-level, interactive programming language Connectivity with the Web through TCP/IP sockets, MathML 2.0, and XML Connectivity with other software tools New packages for advanced mathematics research For example, Maple can be used in the mathematics classroom to: Single-step through the basic problems of single-variable calculus Easily visualize the various concepts seen in an introductory Calculus course Access Maple's computational engine without ever seeing Maple syntax easily compute with vectors, vector fields, multivariate functions and parametric curves Present mathematical concepts in a fully interactive medium Prepare course materials using live graphics and animations Allow student to explore concepts in engaging labs Students learn mathematics by doing and by seeing. Maple's graphical and algebraic capabilities provide students insight into mathematical concepts beyond that possible on a blackboard or in a textbook. Students can compute with Maple exclusively in the domain of real numbers making Maple's answers more intuitive for students. For example, Maple can be used in the mathematics classroom to: Single-step through the basic problems of single-variable calculus Easily visualize the various concepts seen in an introductory Calculus course Access Maple's computational engine without ever seeing Maple syntax easily compute with vectors, vector fields, multivariate functions and parametric curves Present mathematical concepts in a fully interactive medium Prepare course materials using live graphics and animations
